7 Sacred Bath Rituals for Healing

Updated: Oct 17, 2023

Sacred Baths are for more than just physically cleansing the body, they are a means of mental, emotionally and spiritually hitting the reset button. Water has long held mystical properties and is used throughout the world as a means to cleanse the aura of stagnant energy and recalibrate our energy centers or chakras. Soaking in a bath full of warm water calms, relaxes and reattunes the natural flow of water in the body; this is incredibly potent when done with well or natural water.

How To Enhance Sacred Baths

There are a variety of ways that we can enhance the effects of a sacred bath. Some of the most popular ways are through crystals and stones, Crystal Elixirs, natural sea or pink Himalayan salt, crystal infused salt, herbs and flowers, flower essences, affirmations and prayers. Checkout out The Ancient Secret Meaning of Water, and How To Heal Your Energy With It to learn the various ways each of these impacts water differently to reach your desired effect. The two staples to always add are salt and Clear Quartz. Salt not only makes food tasty, it is actually a crystal and thus has the ability to conduct energy. Salt also has a long history throughout the world as being a purification agent. Clear Quartz is the “Master Crystal” for a reason, it cleanses and enhances any energy at play. I recommend using tumbled crystals in the bath to avoid being poked or having small shards break off, and always be mindful of only placing crystals in warm water as too hot or cold can crack or damage the stones. Outside of the bath itself, you can help set the mood or tone by engaging all of the senses through candle light, incense/resin, herbal tea and music. One of the best ways, if not the best, to enhance your sacred bath is to visualize in your mind's eye your desired effect or outcome as if it is either happening before your physical eyes or has already happened.

How Often Should I Take a Sacred Bath

There really is no right or wrong answer to this question unless of course your answer is “never”. I recommend that everyone perform a water purification at least once daily, be that a Sacred Bath, shower, or dip in the local lake. Being made of water and exposed to the various ailments of the world in which we absorb, it is important that we take care of the water body just as much as other aspects of ourselves. As far as the frequency of Sacred Baths specifically, it really depends on the purpose of the bath. If you are taking a Simple Salt Bath, you could technically take one daily but that can be rather drying to the skin; it may be better for you to only do this once weekly. Some prefer to do a Sacred Bath with the New and Full Moons, or during a major astrological transit that causes a stress and funk like Mercury Retrograde. Outside of astrological events, there are times where we just need additional support because of things going on in our lives like the need to Ground or detox, self-love and appreciation, grief, stress, anxiety, etc. However often you decide is right for you, make sure to spend at least 20 minutes minimum in the water and dip your head below the water level at least once if even only for a quick dip in order to get the most benefit.

Caution: while you want to relax, you must remain conscious and in control at all times, and be extremely careful of falling asleep.

Simple Salt Bath

  • Supplies: Natural Sea Salt or Himalayan Pink Salt (whatever amount feels right to you, I do not recommend more than ½ cup per full bath).

  • Add salt directly to the warm bath water and swish around with your hand to make sure it is thoroughly dissolved.

  • Moisturize the skin thoroughly afterwards to avoid excess drying.

Crystal Infused Salts

You can kick the energy up a notch in your salt by first entraining (adding) a specific crystals healing properties to it. While not all crystals can safely be exposed to water, most can have their frequencies transferred to salt so that we can reap their benefits. Crystal infused salt is rather simple, you place the crystal or stone into the salt, and viola! Be mindful that salt is a corrosive agent and can damage crystals and stones over time, especially those with a lower MOHS hardness. There is no hard set rule on when to remove your crystal or stone from the salt, but a good rule of thumb I personally like to follow is 3 - 7 days for most stones. I usually infuse the energy during the New or Full Moon. Check out one of my most popular blog posts, How to Manifest With The Energy of The Day. I tend to leave agates, Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz, Amethyst, Citrine, Smoky Quartz, and Prasiolite in the salt, along with other crystals and stones of a MOHS hardness of 7 or higher (being mindful to account for toxicity).

Emotional Support Sacred Bath

This is a wonderful bath for mindful appreciation for yourself, to fully accept and treat ourselves with kindness, compassion and respect. It is useful during times where we are emotionally taxed, drained and just overwhelmed for whatever reason. Being made predominantly of water, our emotions run deep and reverberate through the entire body when they are felt. This is more than a “love vibes” bath, it is wonderful for aiding in relaxation and calmness following anger, frustration, disappointment, and the list goes on.

Supplies:

  • Salt

  • Crystal infused Salt - Emerald (caution: aluminum), Rose Quartz, Eudialyte (caution: chlorine), Vesuvianite (caution: aluminum), Pink Calcite, Rhodochrosite

  • Crystals (add to water) - Clear Quartz + Rose Quartz and Pink Calcite with minimal exposure

  • Crystal Elixirs - Emerald, Rose Quartz, Eudialyte, Vesuvianite, Pink Calcite, Rhodochrosite

  • Herbs & Flowers (add to water) - Gardenia, Jasmine, Rose and Lavender

  • Prayer & Affirmation - I am enough and I am complete; I am calm and centered; I am a good person and people like me; I am made of pure love and deserve nothing less; I am in control of my emotions, they are not in control of me; etc.

  • Incense - Gardenia, Jasmine, Rose and Lavender flower blossoms (the smell produced naturally by these flowers is Divine and far better than any incense on the market)

  • Candle - Green or Pink

  • Coat yourself in Rose Quartz Body Armor (The Ancient Secret Meaning of Water, and How To Heal Your Energy With It) afterwards for a bonus layer of energy!

  • This would be a good opportunity to enjoy a nice hot cup of Jasmine tea and listen to something deep and soulful like the amazing Ella Fitzgerald or Louis Armstrong.

Clarity Sacred Bath

Most of us spend the vast majority of the day living in our heads, more so when we have something important weighing on our minds. Whether it’s our ego possible getting in the way, uncertainty and doubt, or just the inability to wipe the slate clean, this bath is designed to gain clarity as if the smoke clears and we are able to vividly see. By hitting the reset button in the conscious mind, we can better feel which in turn allows us to better process the signals our subconscious is trying to send.

Supplies:

  • Salt

  • Crystal infused Salt - Blue Lace Agate, Rainbow Moonstone (caution: aluminum), Clear Calcite, Golden Calcite, Fluorite (caution: fluoride)

  • Crystals (add to water) - Clear Quartz + Blue Lace Agate

  • Crystal Elixirs - Blue Lace Agate, Rainbow Moonstone, Clear Calcite, Golden Calcite, Fluorite

  • Herbs & Flowers (add to water) - Rosemary, Mint, Tulsi, Lemon Balm

  • Incense - Add a handful+ of mint leaves to your bath water or in a bowl near you by the side of the bath.

  • Candle - White or Blue (preferably light blue like a beautiful clear sky)

  • This would be a good opportunity to enjoy a nice hot cup of peppermint, Tulsi and lemon balm tea, and listen to something crisp and thought provoking like the classical works of Mozart.

Courage Sacred Bath

There are times where we are faced with great adversity, challenge, are engaging in something new and unknown, need extra encouragement of the will to continue on, must be willing to take a stand, or just feel intimidated for whatever reason. This bath is designed to bring worth the courage within you that you didn’t even know you had, and just like the Cowardly Lion who found his courage, so too shall you.

  • Crystals (add to water) - Clear Quartz + Citrine

  • Incense - Cedar & Rose Geranium

  • Candle - Yellow

  • Coat yourself in a courage version of the Rose Quartz Body Armor afterwards for a bonus layer of energy by substituting Citrine in place of Rose Quartz.

  • Listen to something to get the heart pumping and sending waves of strength and fortitude to the aura like the Scottish tribal drums of Clanadonia (now you know why war drums were used before and during battles throughout the world).

Divine Connection Sacred Bath

We all deserve to feel a sense of belonging, to know that we are a spark of the Divine and nothing stands in our way of this connection except ourselves. This bath is designed to help you reconnect with Spirit, your purpose, and have a true sense of belonging and contentment with where you are in your journey. It aids in illuminating our own internal values, truth, personal growth, and restoration and healing of the soul.

  • Crystal Elixirs - Angelite, Celestite, Apophyllite, Owyhee Blue Opal, Tanzanite, Selenite, White Phantom Quartz

  • Herbs & Flowers (add to water) - Sweetgrass, Rose, Jasmine, Gardenia,

  • Prayer & Affirmation - I am a Divine being; I am a spark of the Divine; I have a direct connection and communication link to the Divine; I am never alone and am always supported; I belong; my soul is fulfilled and healed/healing; etc.

  • Incense - Sweetgrass, Cinnamon, Sandalwood, Myrrh or Frankincense; Rose, Jasmine and Gardenia flower blossoms

  • Candle - White

  • This would be a good opportunity to enjoy a nice hot cup of Tulsi and listen to 432 hz music.

Negativity Neutralizer Sacred Bath

This bath is used to dispel low vibrational frequencies or stagnant energy; what we often refer to as “negative” energy. This is a way that we are able to clear the slate so to speak.

Supplies:

  • Salt

  • Crystal infused Salt - Smoky Quartz, Hematite, and Black Tourmaline (caution: aluminum)

  • Crystals (add to water) - Clear Quartz + Smoky Quartz, you can add Hematite but it may rust as it contains iron.

  • Crystal Elixirs - Smoky Quartz, Hematite, and Black Tourmaline

  • Herbs & Flowers (add to water) - Basil, Rosemary, Sage

  • Prayer & Affirmation - My mind, body and spirit are cleansed and cleared of all low energy; I release anything that no longer serves me; I release all attachments that are not for my highest and best; with this cleansing, my energy is renewed; etc

  • Incense - Rosemary, Sage, Basil, Frankincense, Cinnamon, Myrrh, Patchouli

  • Candle - Black (body), Gray (Mind), and White (Spirit)

Grounding & Detox Sacred Bath

This is not a bath for relaxing, this is hardcore grounding, detoxing and protective bath, treat it as such. This is to be used sparingly; you will know when the time calls for you to use it.

Supplies:

  • Salt - equal parts of Black Lava Salt and Epsom Salts

  • Crystal infused Salt - Amethyst and Jet (hard tumbled)

  • Crystals (add to water) - Clear Quartz + Amethyst and Jet (hard tumbled)

  • Crystal Elixirs - Amethyst and Jet (hard tumbled)

  • Herbs & Flowers (add to water) - Lavender and black pepper (crushed) - 1-2 TBSP each

  • Candle - Black

  • Place salts, lavender and pepper in a muslin bag. Place bag and stones in a warm bath. Gently swish the muslin bag around to release the ingredients evenly. This may seem rather relaxing, but the purpose is to transmute energy, so you should only spend 15 minutes in the water. Make sure to rinse yourself and the bathtub thoroughly, this is a physical and energetic rinse.

Crafting Your Own Customized Sacred Bath

It is rather simple to craft your own sacred bath according to your specific intention and needs. Following the same guidelines as above and ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What is the purpose of this bath?

  2. What crystals are most appropriate for this type of intention?

  3. Do any of these crystals contain toxic elements or have a MOHs hardness that would prevent them from being placed in salt? (if they cannot be infused safely into salt, then they absolutely cannot be placed directly into water)

  4. Do any of these crystals contain toxic elements or have a MOHs hardness that would prevent them from being placed in water? (use the indirect method of creating a crystal elixir, and add the crystal elixir to the bath water)

  5. What plants and flower blossoms would be appropriate for this type of intention? Can they be safely added directly to the water?

  6. What scent (incense, resin, oil, flower blossom) would be appropriate for my desired outcome?

  7. What color of candle best represents the emotion I am trying to invoke?

  8. What natural based drink would assist in achieving my desired outcome based on the sense of taste or medical and spiritual properties?

  9. What type of music best represents the energetic state I am trying to achieve?

Extra Tidbits

A couple of my go-to for plant magic and medicine are Scott Cunningham’s “Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs” for metaphysical uses, and anything by David Hoffman and Matthew Wood for medical uses.

To avoid toxicity in candles, I strongly recommend beeswax candles. Support local beekeepers when possible.
